Blockade is a key theme within Basel’s artworks. As the sun rises daily, the question “Why are we sieged” rises with it. The reality in Gaza proves that the blockade has a major effect on the artistic community. Calling out for mercy, or for a paint box in the space within the blockade becomes a daily reminder of the siege. You wake up not knowing if you are in a dream or nightmare but eventually realize this is reality.
