This latest artwork “Ekhtilal by Asad Azi is currently showcased at Zawyeh Gallery as part of the Posters for Gaza exhibition. My personal art collection features a couple of artworks by Asad Azi, one of which bears a striking resemblance to this particular piece. Displayed prominently in my home, it often elicits comments regarding its poignant portrayal of the ongoing occupation.

While some perceive it as a somber reminder, I interpret it as an expression of resilience and strength. The depicted Palestinian woman stands at her doorway exuding confidence and an “Idgaf” attitude, asserting her ownership of both home and land. In the face of the current genocide, this artwork takes on an even deeper resonance, serving as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit and fortitude of the Palestinian people.

Asad Azi has incorporated dates into the artwork, serving as a reminder of the relentless passage of time. Each passing month serves as a stark reflection of the ongoing challenges, with the numbers of martyrs, orphans, and displaced individuals drastically increasing, while essential resources such as hospitals, food supplies, and clean water sources dwindle. In its latest iteration “Ikhtilal”, the artwork encapsulates the current reality, prompting even deeper contemplation and reflection.

Despite the heart-wrenching emotions and a sense of helplessness that arises from witnessing the unfolding genocide through our screens, I am continually inspired by the unwavering strength of the Palestinian people. It reinforces the notion that resistance is not just a choice but a fundamental aspect of existence. In the midst of heartbreak and anguish, the Palestinians demonstrate a remarkable strength that prevails.
